Top 5 games of 2013

Super Mario 3D World (WiiU) – DO YOU KNOW JOY?! If you played this you will have. New gen’s just started and the best game from it is arguably already here.

Rayman Legends (WiiU/PS3/Vita/360) – The WiiU has the definitive version for sure. Rayman Origins was a fantastic reboot, and its follow up is a zenith in 2D platforming.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS/WiiU) – The Wii version of MH3 was a little lacking in content, especially compared to MHFU on the PSP, but this re-release fixed that quite a bit.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 (3DS) – This, the year of Luigi, brought out a fantastic game that just oozes charm. Luigi’s little mannerisms are amazing, and the multiplayer is an excellent bonus too.

Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS) – A fantastic entry point to the series and unquestionably a high ranking one in it too. It has a surprising amount of replayablity as well.

Honourable Mentions

Good, but just not as good as the ones above. Noticed a pattern yet?

Steamworld Dig (3DS/PC) – Short, but well executed. They could have taken the game even further as it seems to end too soon, but worth the entry price.

Spelunky (VIta/PS3) – This counts as this year right? Brutal, challenging and engrossing.

Pokemon X/Y (3DS) – The jump to 3D was well done, the game looks fabulous and the gameplay is still solid.

Korg M01D (3DS) – A bit of an oddity but sod it! A portable sequencer on your 3DS with dated but usable sounds? Yes please. Sadly getting audio from it is a bit of a workaround.

Attack of the Friday Monsters! (3DS) – A whimsical little game that’s a little bit difficult to explain properly. It’s very light and breezy, but don’t let that put you off.

Christmas Wish List

Bravely Default (3DS) – The spiritual successor to the criminally overlooked 4 Heroes of Light. I was sold on it as soon as it was announced, the demo cemented that. SOON.

Tearaway (Vita) – Looks fantastic, and if they’ve tweaked LBP’s questionable platforming then it’d be there too.

XCOM: Enemy Within (PS3/PC/360) – Enemy Unknown is excellent. That plus more? Yes please.

Pikmin 3 (WiiU) – New Pikmin? SOLD.

The Wonderful 101 (WiiU) – Platinum does Pikmin? SOLD.
